A WE54 RETREAT
MPUMALANGA, SOUTH AFRICA
6–13 DECEMBER 2026
Seven days. One extraordinary landscape. A different way of listening.
COME SOUTH.
THE INVITATION
There are places we visit, and there are places that ask something of us.
The Listening Land is a seven-day WE54 gathering in Mpumalanga, South Africa, created for people who are curious about what becomes possible when we slow down enough to listen differently.
To the land. To the body. To one another. To the stories we have inherited. And perhaps to something in ourselves that has been difficult to hear above the noise of ordinary life.
This is not a retreat designed around escaping your life. It is an invitation to meet it differently.
PEOPLE. LAND. CONVERSATIONS. HEALING. WHAT COMES NEXT.
WHAT IS THE LISTENING LAND?
For seven days, a small group will gather in one of South Africa’s most extraordinary landscapes for an experience of deep listening, movement, embodied inquiry, story, ritual, conversation, rest and encounter.
We will travel through dramatic escarpments and ancient stone landscapes. We will gather around fires. We will move. We will eat together. We will make room for silence. We will listen to stories and to one another. And we will allow the land itself to become part of the faculty.
There is structure, but there is also spaciousness. There is companionship, and there is solitude. There are moments of inquiry and moments in which nothing needs to be achieved at all.
The intention is simple: to create the conditions in which something more honest, alive and deeply remembered can become audible.
What becomes audible when life becomes quieter?
What becomes possible when we listen without needing to fix?
What can place teach us when we slow down enough to notice?
Another way of knowing.
Mpumalanga is not the backdrop to this gathering. It is part of the teaching.
Our days will take us into a landscape of escarpments, forests, vast horizons, waterfalls and ancient stone sites. We will encounter places including the Panorama Route, God’s Window, the Gorge Lift and the stone circles of Mpumalanga.
Rather than rushing through these places as tourists, we will practise encounter: slowing down, noticing, listening and allowing place to work upon us.
We call this the land as third faculty: the understanding that wisdom does not only arrive through the people at the front of the room.
THE RHYTHM OF THE WEEK
The week follows a gentle developmental arc. Each day carries a different orientation, while leaving room for what emerges in the group and in the landscape.
01 · SUNDAY
Arrive. Land. Meet one another. Begin to cross the threshold from ordinary time into the shared experience.
02 · MONDAY
Listening beneath the noise. Remembering what matters, what has shaped us and what may have been forgotten.
03 · TUESDAY
Turning towards agency, embodied wisdom and the parts of ourselves we may have handed away.
04 · WEDNESDAY
Making room for what becomes visible when we listen more deeply, to ourselves, to one another and to the land.
05 · THURSDAY
A quieter day. Spaciousness, solitude and restorative time. Less doing. More allowing.
06 · FRIDAY
Conversation, shared experience and fireside gathering. Letting the week begin to integrate.
07 · SATURDAY
Bringing what has been discovered back into relationship with life. Celebration, integration and our closing bonfire.
08 · SUNDAY
A final morning together before departure. Leaving not with all the answers, but perhaps listening differently.
WHAT YOU MAY EXPERIENCE
The programme is intentionally held as a living container rather than a rigid itinerary. Exact sequencing may shift in response to weather, the group and the needs of the experience.
HOW WE HOPE YOU LEAVE
We hope you leave with a little more spaciousness in your body, a deeper relationship with listening, and a sense that something meaningful happened here.
And we hope you leave with community: not simply a collection of people who attended the same retreat, but a small circle of wiser friends who have shared something difficult to reduce to words.
YOUR FACILITATORS

Executive Leadership & Team Coach, PCC | Co-Founder, WE54
Wendy works with leaders, teams and human systems at the intersection of leadership, sovereignty, relationship and embodied transformation. Her work invites people beyond performance and inherited patterns towards greater self-authority, presence and aliveness.
Leadership Development Coach | Trauma-Informed Practitioner | Experiential Designer | Co-Founder, WE54
Ella works at the intersection of leadership development, psychology, embodiment and deep listening. Her work draws on coaching, systemic practice, mindfulness, movement and trauma-informed approaches to create spaces in which people can encounter themselves, one another and the systems they inhabit with greater depth.
Together, Wendy and Ella hold the gathering as facilitators rather than experts with all the answers. The group, the stories carried into the room and the land itself are part of the intelligence of the experience.

COME SOUTH.
54 COUNTRIES. NOT ONE AFRICA. NOT ONE STORY. NOT ONE WAY OF KNOWING.
WE54 creates gatherings, retreats, conversations and experiences that bring people into deeper relationship with Africa, her lands, her people, her stories and her many ways of knowing.
We are interested in what happens when people from different places and different walks of life meet beyond the usual scripts: not to consume a continent, but to enter relationship with place, story, wisdom and one another.
